Abstract

This study was carried out to know the application and explore the use of Googe Classroom and WhatsApp Group and the obtsacles faced by teacher and students while using Google Classroom and school WhatsApp group as online English learning media at SMPN 2 Kartasura during the pandemic era. Since the research investigated the phonomena which enabled the researchers to see it subjectively,the research belongs to qualitative study. The subjects used in this study were students of class VIII E and teachers at SMPN 2 Kartasura. To get the data needed, the researcher, applied observation, interviews, and document analysis. The data obtained in this study were in the form of written data and documentation. The results showed that most the students experienced problems in using Google Classroom as an online learning medium. In addition, some students and teachers experience common problems, namely,the difficulty of connecting to the internet quotas owned by the students, and the use of cellphones by parents. However, learing English using Google Classroom can be said to be less fluent and effective because most students had problems accesing Google Classroom, so they needed WhatsApp as an easily accesible learning medium.
