Abstract

In an industrial world, technology is needed in the process of factory performance, for example, in the smooth process of calculating an item in place. Some industries still use a lot of manual processes, from which problems arise which in the manual work process there are still many errors, one of which is in the process of calculating items that are not accurate. Based on the problems faced, it is necessary to conduct research and design a tool that can detect and count items based on a microcontroller using an infrared sensor. With this tool system, activities in the calculation process of an item can be detected automatically quickly and precisely. This automatic item counter has a 12 V DC motor with a battery source that will move the conveyor for the goods to move and an infrared sensor to detect the number of items that pass through the sensor. Later it is displayed on the LCD which has been processed by the program on the Arduino Uno. . The infrared sensor has a HIGH and LOW state. The sensor goes a HIGH value if there is an object that passes through it and return to LOW value when the object has passed the sensor. The output of the HIGH value of the sensor is shown on the LCD in the form of a number that will continue to increase for each number of items that pass sensors also increase. A switch button functions as a reset of the detected amount value which is then read by the program back to 0. This test is carried out with the conveyor working with the Arduino system on standby. The minimum speed that is run on this conveyor working system is 25% of the maximum speed of 100 rpm. Experiments were carried out using various materials such as plastic, wood, paper and using electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, transistors. This test aims to determine the sensitivity and distance of the infrared sensor in detecting various objects and the reliability of the tool for real application. This tool can effectively and accurately detect objects that are regular in shape and have a flat surface, but is not very effective for objects with irregular surfaces. Infrared sensors are less reliable when exposed to bright light, so they can't be used anywhere.
