Abstract

Islamic boarding school is an educational institution that is ready to create a generation that is able to balance both the world and the ukhrawi. Efforts to achieve these goals can not be separated from the role of caregivers who educate and accompany the students for 24 hours. Becoming a caregiver in a boarding school certainly has criteria such as having good morals, alumni of Islamic boarding schools, having memorized Al-Qu’an, having sincerity in a career in Islamic boarding schools. The role as a substitute for parents for their students, in this case even though the caregiver does not have children, can they handle the students. This study aims to determine and describe the experiences of unmarried caregivers as foster parents at the Muhammadiyah Sangen Islamic Boarding School. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Subjects were selected through purposive sampling technique, namely the selection of subjects with certain criteria as determined by the researcher. The criteria for this research are: (a) unmarried caregivers, (b) become new students' mayors. This study resulted in 9 themes, namely first impressions on students, memorable experiences, pleasant experiences, unpleasant experiences, obstacles, conflict management, how to instill morals, how to instill worship and reasons at the Sangen Islamic boarding school. The experience felt by caregivers when some students violated. Caregivers try to overcome this with punishment and giving advice. Although the many violations committed by the students did not make the caregivers despair because on the other hand they saw the enthusiasm of the students in memorizing the Qur'an. The conclusion of this study is that the caregivers are able to educate their students well even though they are not married and have children directly.
