Abstract

Dental filling is removing carious tissue and placing restorative materialon teeth. The materials commonly used in restorations are glass ionomer cements and composite resins. Glass ionomer cement has the ability to release fluorine so that it can reduce the incidence of secondary caries, while composite resins are unable to release fluorine. In its development, fluoride content was added as a filler in the composite resin, namely ytterbium fluoride (YbF 3). Purpose : To determine the difference in the mechanism of fluoride release in fluoride releasing composite resin and glass ionomer cement restorative materials.Discussion : Glass ionomer cement restoration materials release fluoride through short-term (initial burst) and long-term reactions. The fluoride composite resin releases fluorine through a diffusion exchange reaction in a water-absorbing medium, most of the mechanism occurs within the resin matrix. Conclusion : There are differences in the mechanism of fluorine release in fluoride releasing composite resin and glass ionomer cement restorative materials.
