Abstract

Filial piety to both parents is a commendable character often called birrul walidain. The child's devotion to his parents will never be directly proportional to the sacrifice of parents for their children. Filial piety can be shown by good service, words of courtesy, and devotion to both. In this day and age, there have been many phenomena of a child who disobeyed his parents, of course this is very contrary to what has been ordered by Allah SWT and the Prophet Muhammad. The purpose of this study is to determine the interpretation of birrul walidain q.s Al-isra [17] : 23-24 and q.s Luqman [31] : 14 according to Tafsir Ath Thabari and Ibn Kathir and compare the similarities and differences between the interpretation of birrul walidain between the two interpreters. This research is a library research. The data sources used are primary and secondary data, the primary data is the Book of Tafsir Jami ' Al-Bayan Fi Tafsir al-Qur'an by Ath Thabari, the Book of Tafsir al-Qur'an Al-Azhim by Ibn Kathir, and secondary data are journals, theses, scientific articles, and books specific to the discussion of birrul walidain. The method used in analyzing this paper is the method of muqaran. Based on data analysis conducted, from the interpretation of Q.S Al Isra [17] : 23-24 Ath Thabari and Ibn Kathir agreed that the position of parents has a great position with Allah SWT, devoted to both parents by doing good as well as possible (ihsan), when the parents are elderly because at that time they are in dire need of a child's worship, then Ath Thabari and Ibn Kathir agreed that a child is, yelling at them with scorn and harsh attitude, a child should say a noble word (qoulan karima) which is gentle and affectionate words, using the best and most gentle expressions and full of manners and respect. A child should treat his parents patiently and sincerely, be humble to them, and pray for them. From the interpretation of Q.S Luqman [31] : 14 Ath Thabari and Ibn Kathir agreed that Allah SWT bequeathed to do good to both parents, especially to the mother who had conceived him in an increasingly weak state, then weaned him for two years, always grateful to Allah and also grateful to both parents.
