Abstract

This study aims to determine the roughness value of the aluminum surface and the topographic results from SEM testing with variations in the diameter of the ballnose chisel with a tool size of 4mm,5mm, and 6mm the resulting value (μm) on a flat surface from cnc milling router 3 axis machining results with a mach 3 control system and aluminum material. The machining process is carried out with variations in the diameter of the ballnose chisel, then tested the roughness value using the arithmetic mean value (μm]) method using the surface roughness tester MITUTOYO SJ 210, and the topography is seen through the SEM test (scanning electron microscopy). The results showed that the larger the diameter of the tool used during the machining process of a 3-axis CNC milling router machine with aluminum material resulted in a higher surface roughness value, and resulted in a larger compression width. The roughness level with a diameter variation of 4.5.6 mm results in a roughness level on the N7. In the machining process, the parameters used are the tool groove using the roaster groove, rpm 10080, stepover 2% of the tool diameter, step down 0.5mm and federate 576mm / m. This parameter produces a roughness level on a 4mm diameter tool with a value of 1,351μm on a 5mm diameter tool resulting in a roughness value of 1,578μm on a 6mm tool resulting in a roughness value of 1,906μm, in topographic testing using SEM test tool produces a contour due to the shape of the ballnose tool itself. So to get a small roughness value, use a smaller tool diameter
