Abstract
This study explains how the form of uncertainty experienced by deaf friends when shopping at traditional markets and explains how the strategies used to reduce the uncertainty experienced. In this study using qualitative methods using in-depth interview techniques in order to obtain clear information. This study uses the Unvcertainty Reduction theory by using passive, active, and interactive strategies. The purpose of this study is to determine the uncertainty experienced by deaf friends who are members of GERKATIN SOLO and find ways to reduce the uncertainty experienced by deaf friends when shopping at traditional markets. The results show that when shopping at traditional markets, deaf friends experience various forms of uncertainty. To reduce the uncertainty experienced, deaf friends also have several different strategies, either passively, actively, or interactively. Of the various strategies that have been carried out by deaf friends, interactive strategies are the most effective strategies in reducing uncertainty when shopping at traditional markets. By increasing the intensity of direct interaction, both deaf friends and traders will learn from each other and understand each other's desired form of communication
