Abstract
A state of social balance that occurs in society makes a very striking difference. One of the social problems that occur in Indonesia is poverty. The gaps that occur do not only have an economic and social impact, but also on education, especially for children. Not all Indonesian people can experience education, even if it's only elementary school. The delivery of messages about social has been done in various ways, one of which is through films. Stip & Pencil is a film that raises social issues in Indonesia. This film tells how four rich children who are hostile to one school get the task of writing an essay. Instead of writing essays, they built schools for poor children. However, building a school was not what they expected. They have to go through many obstacles, starting from dealing with scavenger leaders, parents of children who don't agree with their children studying, difficulty for children to go to school, and also evictions of schools to villages for poor people. This study uses a qualitative method with John Fiske's semiotic theory. The sampling technique used is non-probability with purposive sampling. Validation of data using triangulation method.
