Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic brought major changes, especially in the economic sector, one of which was affected, namely the Mall. This study aims to find out how to implement Two Ways Symmetric Communication at Solo Paragon Mall during the COVID-19 pandemic and the strategies taken to increase visitor visits after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic virus. Researchers explored the activities carried out by Solo Paragon Mall Public Relations in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic virus outbreak by conducting semi-structured in-depth interviews with PR and Mall visitors, observation, and documentation. The method used in this research is qualitative with descriptive research type. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The subject used was Solo Paragon Mall public relations, why were they chosen because the public relations department was much more aware of how the Mall was developing during the COVID-19 pandemic and what were the obstacles faced by the Mall during the COVID-19 pandemic. The object used is the Solo Paragon Mall because we will discuss what problems are faced during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. The theory of excellence was chosen in this research because the theory of excellence discusses the function of the ideal role of public relations that must be carried out in a company or organization. The core of the theory of excellence discusses the function and theory of the ideal role of public relations, namely Excellence Communication. Excellence Communication presents an explanation of the criteria that should realize excellence in organizational success through the implementation of good public relations and also relates to several principles of excellence and public relations models according to gruig. The results of the study explain that the strategy carried out by PR to attract visitors to visit the Mall is holding more attractive events/exhibitions/discounts with the principles of Excellence applied, namely Symmetrical Internal, Knowledge, Involvement, and Symmetrical Internal Communication.
