Abstract
This study aims to describe the implementation of character education and the supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of character education through Islamic Religious Education subjects at SMP Negeri 2 Jatinom Klaten. The type of research is field research, using a phenomenological qualitative approach. The data collection uses the method of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study were obtained from 3 character values that can be applied through Islamic Religious Education subjects at SMP Negeri 2 Jatinom Klaten, namely Religious, Honesty, and Discipline. From this research, it can be concluded that there are 4 ways to find out how to implement character education through Islamic Religion subjects, namely: 1) The planning process, namely compiling a syllabus and lesson plan (RPP) according to the guidelines of the Ministry of National Education. 2) The implementation process, namely the teacher gives more advice or teaching, practice and habituation, and is a role model. Religious character is carried out by praying before and after learning, habituation of dhuha prayer, study activities every Sunday morning, and habituation of dzuhur prayer in congregation. Honest character is done by getting used to doing exams or tests independently. Discipline character is carried out by obeying the rules that have been made by the school. 3) The evaluation process consists of 4 aspects, namely input, by selecting teachers who have competencies that are in accordance with the needs of the school. Both processes (processes) are carried out through intracurricular and extracurricular activities. The three outputs (results), the implementation of character education for Islamic Religious Education subjects is going quite well, judging from the understanding of the material, attitudes, and values that are already good. The four outcomes (impacts), the impact of which can be seen from students who are accustomed to behaving honestly, respecting elders, having an empathetic attitude, prioritizing worship, are in the process of becoming a better person, and being independent. Supporting factors include a good school environment, adequate infrastructure, and the material being taught. The inhibiting factor is that there are still teachers who have not implemented character education and the lack of students' willingness to carry out character education seriously.
