Abstract

Sexual crime is a sexual act that refers to behaviour either through physical contact or without physical contact. Rape culture itself is basically the meaning of habits or social norms to normalize sexual crime. This research using research from Martha R. Burt (1980) of the rape culture and the theory of Rosemarie Tong (2014) about feminism. The purpose of the research is to realize that there is a social problem called “rape culture” in the society, which may have been victimize as a joke or a common thing to happen to normalize sexual crime. With this research, the researcher wants to studying about the forms of the rape culture portrayed in the Promising Young Woman (2020) movie and how the effects of rape culture affect the main character, Cassie. This research is conducted by Literature Studies, uses qualitative research with a feminism perspective. This research found three forms of rape culture portrayed in this movie, normalizing to look down opposite gender, normalize verbal sexual harassment, and victim blaming. Whereas two the rape culture affected Cassie is that she was traumatized and decided to get revenge.
