Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic condition requires educators to innovate to change learning patterns from face-to-face to distance learning. Learning to write poetry given by educators to students is able to express students' feelings through the themes and styles of language used. This study aims to describe the variety of themes and language styles during the pandemic period written through poetry. With the qualitative method, the researcher only analyzes the data based on the elements of the poem (theme and language style), then describes, and concludes. The data was taken based on the poems made by students of SMK Muhammadiyah Purwodadi which were then analyzed for each line of the poem based on the theme and style of poetry. The results of this study show 13 poems with physical themes, 4 organic themes, 7 social themes, 4 selfish themes and 3 divine themes. The analysis of language style shows that language style based on sentence structure is divided into 4, namely: climax, parallelism, antithesis, and repetition. While the style of language based on whether or not the meaning is direct is divided into 2 parts, namely: (1) Figurative language style which includes simile, metaphor, personification, epithet, metonymy, antonomasia, hypalase, irony, cynicism, sarcasm, and satire. (2) Rhetorical language styles include alliteration, assonation, anastrophe, apostrophe, asidentone, polysideton, ellipsis, euphemism, prolepsis, erothesis, correction, and hyperbole.
