Abstract

This study aims to empirically examine the relationship between emotion regulation and self-esteem with violent behavior in dating students. A total of 110 students from 10 universities in Solo became respondents in this study. This research uses incidental sampling technique. Data were collected using research instruments, namely the emotional regulation scale, self-esteem scale and the scale of violent behavior in dating. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using multiple linear regression technique with SPSS 16.0 program. The results of the analysis show the value of Fregression = 24,614 with a value of sig, p = 0.000 (p <0.05), so that emotional regulation and self-esteem together can significantly influence the behavior of violent dating in college students. The effective contribution of emotional regulation and self-esteem variables is 20.5% to violent behavior in dating. Thus the regulation of emotions and self-esteem plays an important role in preventing violent behavior in dating in college students.
