Abstract

Currently, many expert systems have been developed from various fields, one of which is in the health sector to diagnose a disease using only a smartphone or computer. This study focuses on diseases of the thyroid gland such as Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism, Thyroid Inflammation, and Thyroid Cancer that many people still don't know, the lack of understanding of the thyroid gland makes it difficult for people to diagnose what disease they are suffering from and requires quite expensive costs to carry out direct examinations to the doctor. Seeing such conditions, this research was developed to design a website-based system aimed at diagnosing diseases that can be caused by the thyroid gland using the forward chaining method. Forward chaining is a method used to draw conclusions or results, the results of this method are based on the data obtained to refer to certain results. The diagnosis process is carried out by conducting a questionnaire session, in which the system provides questions related to the symptoms of thyroid gland disease which will be entered by the user according to the symptoms experienced to get the results of the disease suffered by the user according to the forward-chaining rules that have been designed. The results of this study yield a value of 74 from the SUS calculation which proves that a web-based expert system can be used properly by users to diagnose thyroid disease where there is no need to interact with doctors and obtain information about the causes and treatment solutions for thyroid disease experienced.
