Abstract

Concrete is the right material to be used in construction in the sea area. The chloride content in seawater is a factor that causes a decrease in the strength of concrete. This study aims to determine the effect of steel slag substitution as a coarse aggregate on the properties of fresh concrete and the flexural strength of High Volume Fly Ash-Self Compacting Concrete (HVFA-SCC) concrete after soaking with chloride concentration. The percentage of fly ash used is 50% of the total volume of binders, while the percentage of steel slag is 20% of the total volume of coarse aggregates. Soaking is carried out using chloride concentrations of 1%-4% and purified water as a control. Concrete planning using ACI 211.1-19 method and trial and error. Fresh concrete testing includes slump flow and L-Box. Strong flexural testing was performed after the concrete sample was soaked at chloride concentrations at the age of 28 days. The results showed that the substitution of steel slag by 20% to replace coarse aggregates in High Volume Fly Ash-Self Compacting Concrete (HVFA-SCC) has a higher workability value than using 100% gravel. The flexural strength of concrete shows a decrease as chloride concentration increases, but High Volume Fly Ash-Self Compacting Concrete (HVFA-SCC) concrete with steel slag substitution of 20% has a higher flexural strength value.
