Abstract

The present study deals with friendship as reflected in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) movie. Aristotle’s theory of friendship was employed for analyzing the data. This study aims to identify the types of friendship in the work and to describe how friendship is depicted in the work. This study is a type of library research or literary criticism. The data are in the form of dialogues, quotes, scene captures, and structural elements between the characters. The data are collected using the document analysis method. The primary data sources come from The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) movie directed by Stephen Chbosky. The secondary data sources come from journals, theses, and other documents related to the study. The finding shows that there are three types of friendship in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) movie, namely Friendship of Goodness, Friendship of Pleasure, and Friendship of Utility. Furthermore, the finding also shows that the friendship in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) movie is depicted in six ways, which are through Theme, Characterization, Setting, Event, Point of View, and Sound.
