Abstract

This research was conducted in a forest area, Kerinci Seblat National Park Merangin Selatan Resort about the factors causing the rate of deforestation. This area was chosen because of the large number of forest areas that have been converted into plantation areas. The objectives of this study are (1) Analyzing the distribution of deforestation in forest areas (2) Analyzing the level of damage to the conservation forest of Merangin Selatan Resort (3) Analyzing the factors causing deforestation in the forest area at the Merangin Selatan Resort. The method used in this research is (1) analysis of the level of forest area damage using the NDVI calculation method, (2) distribution analysis and knowing the rate of deforestation using the overlay method with image interpretation and (3) knowing the factors causing deforestation by interviewing respondents, drawing conclusions using the frequency distribution table method. The results of this study can be concluded that (1) The net deforestation area in 2010-2015 was 3,095.85 Ha with a rate of -0.51%, the range of 2015-2020 net deforestation was 9,191.07 Ha at a rate of -1,4%. In 2020, the forest area (fixed) is 103663.61 Ha. The highest change is the change from forest to plantation with an area of 7616.57 Ha in 2010-2020. The distribution of deforestation activities occurred in the sub-districts of Muara Siau, Lembah Masurai, and Jangkat. (2) The highest forest destruction occurred in 2020 covering an area of 1262.75 Ha, the highest medium vegetation level occurred in 2015 covering an area of 2897.78 Ha. (3) The main factors that cause deforestation are economic factors or the human need for land and the presence of irresponsible elements that cause a lot of forest clearing activities to occur.
