Abstract

Indonesia's tropical forests are reported to have more than 25,000 plant species in the world. The use of tropical forests in Indonesia, so far, is still conventional. Scientifically, biological wealth (biodiversity) is basically the wealth of chemicals and a variety of pharmacological activities that are beneficial to human interests; Biodiversity means chemical diversity and also pharmacological activities diversity. One of the endemic plants of Indonesia, namelyfrom the Meranti plant family (Dipterocarpaceae). Dipterocarpaceae is one of the large plant families and is spread in tropical Asia, especially in the Malesia region including Indonesia. The Dipterocarpaceae family is a wood-producing plant that has high economic value. Wood from this plant family is used as a building material and raw material for making pulp and paper. Chemical studies show that the secondary metabolite content of plants from the Dipterocarpaceae family is very diverse, including phenol groups, such as oligostilbenoids (oligomer resveratrol), flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, and phenolic acid derivatives, as well as non-phenol groups, namely triterpenoids.
