Abstract

The existence of urban movement or development is a tendency to shift urban functions or characteristics to suburban areas, which is called the urban sprawl process. Surakarta City is one of the cities which is the foundation of the surrounding area, due to the complete community facilities starting from the center of the economy, education, health, and sports for the Regency area around Surakarta City, especially the former Karisidenan Surakarta area. which is entirely centered on the city of Surakarta. The impact of the urban sprawl has an impact on the development of villages that are bordering the city of Surakarta. The aims of this study are (1) to analyze the urban sprawl area around the city of Surakarta and (2) Analyzing the urban sprawl area of each village around Surakarta City.The method used is descriptive qualitative and sampling using purposive sampling, namely to determine the character of the sample from the population.Data collection methods are primary data and secondary data.The analytical method used is spatial analysis and descriptive analysis.The results of this study are (1) the physical and non-physical characteristics that occur in many villages, namely the characteristics of the density of buildings, the level of accessibility, and the livelihoods of the population, and (2) The level of urban sprawl that occurs in villages bordering Surakarta City from the 20 villages studied is all low.The number of scores is 8-10, and only 2 villages have a score of 8, at a score of 9 there are 11 villages, and at a score of 10 there are 7 villages. The village with the lowest score is Plesungan Village, and Sawahan Village. (3) The highest Urban Sprawl is on the south side of Surakarta City.
