Abstract

In individual social media, there is interpersonal communication in the form of a self-disclosure or the process of revealing our personal information to others or vice versa. Self-disclosure occurs when someone voluntarily tells about himself to others. In this case, it is also related to self-confidence and emotion coping in responding to comments made by other media users. So there is a problem whether there is a relationship between self-confidence and Emotion Coping with Self Disclosure in Social Media on Psychology Students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The purpose of this research. Knowing the Relationship of Confidence and Emotion Coping with Self Disclosure in Social Media at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. correlational quantitative approach. Participant criteria are active students of the Faculty of Psychology, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta and who are active users of social media. Sampling Purposive sampling technique amounted to 72 subjects. Quantitative methods and scales used are self-disclosure scale, self-confidence scale, and emotion coping scale. The method of analysis using multiple regression techniques. There is a strong relationship between self-confidence and emotion coping with self-disclosure of social media users of the students of the Faculty of Psychology, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Based on the results of the significant value = 0.000; (p<0.05) then, the major hypothesis of this study can be accepted. While the minor hypothesis obtained a significant value (1-tailed) = 0.000; (p<0.05), which indicates that self-confidence and self-disclosure on social media users of UMS Psychology Faculty students have a significant positive relationship. Hypothesis 2 obtained significant value coefficient (1-tailed) = 0.000; (p<0.05), which indicates that emotional coping and self-disclosure on social media users of UMS Psychology Faculty students have a positive relationship. The effective contribution of self-confidence and emotion coping to self-disclosure is 58.7 percent, while 41.3% of other factors affect the self-disclosure of social media users. Psychology students have low self-disclosure, while the self-confidence and emotion coping of Psychology students are already high, so it needs to be maintained by doing programs that are in the aspects of self-confidence and emotion coping.
