Abstract

The problem of education is a big problem that exists in Indonesia. Almost all regions in Indonesia have issues with education, one of which is Jambi Province. Based on the Regional Medium-Term Development Plan by the Jambi Provincial Bappeda on education problems in Jambi Province, it is stated that there are still school-age children who have not received their right to get an education, as well as low public awareness of the importance of going to school and getting an education. In addition, the education process is also not optimal due to inadequate educational supporting facilities and infrastructure. Educational facilities and infrastructure, both formal and non-formal, are one of the important points to support the educational process so that it can run optimally and efficiently. Libraries are one of the non-formal educational facilities that are able to be a solution to existing educational problems. However, the library in Jambi City has not met the applicable comfort standards, so there needs to be improvements in the construction of the library. Departing from the existing problems, the efforts that can be made are to design a library that is able to encourage a love of reading for all circles of society by eliminating the rigid and formal impression on the library and designing library with a public space that is able to provide creative and educational spaces for the community. The result of the design is to create a concept of the mass form of the library by eliminating the rigid and formal impression and creating the concept of a pleasant and comfortable reading area for library users.
