Abstract

Education is a religious obligation, which means that religion commands to study education in order for personal development of society and the nation. Islamic Boarding School is an educational facility that plays a role in advancing the life of the nation and becomes a place to explore religious sciences, especially Islam which is the majority in Indonesia. The reality of some of these Islamic boarding schools is that there are problems, the most frequent of which are environmental crises, energy crises and health crises. This problem arises because of the life habits of students in the boarding school environment. Habits of eating patterns, hygiene, learning activities related to the quality of the environment. This is what happened at the Al-Baqiyatus Shalihat Islamic Boarding School in Tanjung Jabung Barat. Some of the problems seen in this Islamic boarding school are that there are inadequate buildings, the number of dormitory occupants, poor road conditions or accessibility, cleanliness and health of students, facilities and infrastructure supporting sports activities that are still lacking. This study aims: (1) How to redesign Islamic boarding schools with a green building approach? (2) What is the design of the building that encourages a healthy lifestyle? The research method used was primary and secondary data collection, analysis and design. The design of this Islamic boarding school has a green concept and as an education or learning for students that it is important to be frugal in the use of natural resources and protect the environment of the Islamic boarding school in order to minimize the negative impact of buildings in the present and in the future.
