Abstract

Currently, IoT has been widely used in various fields, one of which is in the security sector. The use of IoT offers ease and efficiency in its use. With easy access to the internet today, IoT has become increasingly popular. The existence of theft around the campus requires the boarding house owner to find a way to make the boarding house gate safe. This study aims to create an IoT system that is applied to the boarding house gate using Arduino so that it can be accessed and monitored remotely using an Android device. The benefits of this system are that it makes it easier for the boarding house occupants to open the gate without using a traditional key, and check for the possibility of forgetting to lock the door after leaving or entering the boarding house, while the benefits for the boarding house keeper are that they can monitor who accesses the gate every time it is opened. After this system was implemented at the Putri Tiga Bintang Dormitory with a total of 10 occupants, the average letancy time was 0.719 seconds when opening and 0.513 seconds when closing the door. From this value, it can be concluded that the use of this system as a boarding house security method is quite good because the time letancy obtained is quite fast and rarely increases in time.
