Abstract
This research has purpose (1) to describe the use of Inquiry Based Learning with video in teaching reading in distance learning by the English teacher for the tenth-grade students of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta in the academic year of 2020/ 2021 and (2) to identify the advantages and disadvantages of teaching reading by using Inquiry Based Learning with video in distance learning for the tenth-grade students of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta in the academic year of 2020/ 2021. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative study to perform this research. This study was carried out at SMA Batik Surakarta, with the English instructor of the tenth grade serving as the subject or informant. The data in this study came from interviews and document analysis, and the sources of the data were the English teacher of grade X. The researcher used interviews and document analysis to acquire data for this study. The research findings were separated into two categories. The first is the application of Inquiry Based Learning with video in distance learning by the English teacher for the tenth-grade students of SMA Batik 1 Surakarta in the academic year 2020/ 2021. Its application consists of six steps: orientation, formulation of the problem, formulation of the hypothesis, formulation of data, testing of the hypothesis, and formulation of the conclusion. Video media can help to make learning more effective and efficient. In this case, video media can assist the teacher in quickly delivering the educational material and making learning more enjoyable. The second finding is the benefits and drawbacks of teaching reading using Inquiry Based Learning with video in distance learning for tenth-grade students at SMA Batik 1 Surakarta in the 2020/ 2021 academic year. The study discovered numerous advantages and downsides of utilizing inquiry-based learning with video for teaching reading. The benefits discovered include making learning more effective and efficient, assisting students in becoming more involved in their learning, and Inquiry Based Learning determining students' freedom. Meanwhile, the drawbacks discovered are as follows: it is difficult to control students' activity and achievement, it is difficult to organize learning owing to students' habits, and it is time demanding.
