Abstract

The dynamics of the development of Islamic education in Indonesia are increasingly showing significant changes with the emergence of new faces of Islamic educational institutions, namely full day schools and boarding schools. Many Islamic foundations compete to establish educational institutions in accordance with educational developments and the demands of the times. Muhammadiyah Middle School Darul Arqom Karanganyar is one of the schools that was established under the auspices of the Muhammadiyah Foundation, this school is a new school in its time. With a relatively young school age, this school is the only school in Karanganyar that implements education in the form of full day school and boarding school well, not only that, this school also shows rapid development, so that this school is nicknamed a superior school and favorite. This study is a study that aims to describe the dynamics of the development of SMP Muhammadiyah Darul Arqom Karanganyar along with the factors that encourage and hinder the dynamics of its development. This research is a field research with a historical approach. Data was collected by observation, interviews, and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis uses Miles and Huberman's interactive analysis model, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results showed that: 1) Muhammadiyah Middle School Darul Arqom Karanganyar experienced the dynamics of development through three stages, namely the pioneering period, the revitalization period, and the development period. First, the pioneering period is a time when schools are established and pioneered. Second, the revitalization period is a period when schools change everything from aspects of buildings to the education system that is implemented. Third, the development period is a period where schools begin to develop marked by the formation of public interest and the increasing number of students and achievements that have been achieved every year. 2) The driving and inhibiting factors for the dynamics of the development of Muhammadiyah Middle School Darul Arqom Karanganyar include: First, the driving factor is the support from the Karanganyar Regional Leadership Education Council Foundation and the Karanganyar Muhammadiyah Association, the strategic geographical location, and the disappearance of the RSBI (International Standard School Pioneer) school program. The two inhibiting factors were during the pioneering period, the location of the building was less strategic, teacher performance was lacking, public interest had not yet been formed, and the government's RSBI (International Standard School Pioneer) program was available. During the revitalization period, the school was not yet known to the public and the facilities and infrastructure were limited. During the development period, community interest began to form, but students were still limited.
