Abstract

Students are teenagers who actively use social media to follow current trends, they are willing to spend money just to buy things that are up to date to be the center of attention. This causes a person to behave consumptively, which is a condition where a person's activities in using goods or services are excessive, causing waste. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between lifestyle and peer environment with consumptive behavior in students. The population of this research is active students from the 2018 class, 2020 and 2021 at a private university in the city of Solo, using the Simple Random Sampling technique. The research sample selected was 220 students. This research is a quantitative research with Multiple Linear Regression analysis method. The results of data analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between lifestyle and peer environment with consumptive behavior in students. The correlation analysis between the two variables proves that there is a significant positive relationship between lifestyle and consumptive behavior in students and a significant positive relationship between the peer environment and consumptive behavior in students. This means that the higher the lifestyle and environment of peers, the higher the consumptive behavior of students, on the contrary, the lower the lifestyle and environment of peers, the lower the consumptive behavior of students. The effective contribution of lifestyle and peer environment variables is 35.2% and the remaining 64.8% is influenced by other factors.
