Abstract

Surakarta is one of the major cities in Central Java Province, Indonesia. Surakarta has a relatively small area with a large population, making Surakarta the first most populous city in Central Java (Republika, 2022). The result and impact of the very high level of density of the city is the reduction of open space, especially for public space areas. One of the public space areas in Surakarta located in The Pepe River, namely in the dam area in front of the Tirtonadi Terminal, has decreased in quality. The decline in quality is such as the rearrangement of the location that is not optimal, the amount of garbage in the area, irregular circulation of the area, inadequate vegetation, road areas that are sometimes used as skateboarding areas and jogging areas, to dirty rivers and no special places to sell. In addition to various kinds of problems found in the public space area, it turns out that the area can also be developed into potential. Based on observations, the potential that can be developed in the area is in the form of: public trade fair, public sport, public art, local architecture, water conservation, and waterfront City.
