Abstract
Background: Besides occurring in adults and the elderly, younger people can also experience hypertension. According to data from several studies, hypertension can occur since adolescence and has recently experienced an increasing prevalence. One factor which affects the incidence of hypertension in adolescents is low knowledge. Individual action or behavior is strongly influenced by knowledge. Low knowledge can affect the lifestyle of teenagers to be unhealthy. Objective: This study aims to describe the level of knowledge of adolescents about hypertension in the area of Sambi Boyolali Health Center. Methods: This research is a descriptive quantitative type. The sample in this study was taken using a purposive sampling technique involving 98 adolescents in the Sambi Health Center area. The questionnaire about hypertension knowledge was used and modified by the researcher with 11 statements. Results: The results of this study indicate that the majority of adolescents aged 17 years, female and high school educated and the level of knowledge of adolescents about hypertension are in the good category as much as 59.2%, sufficient knowledge 31.6% and lack of knowledge 9.2%. Conclusion: The level of knowledge of adolescents about hypertension in the Sambi Health Center area is mostly in the good category.
