Abstract

Solar panels are converting sunlight into electrical energy, one of the uses of solar panels can be used as a backup power source (back up) when the electricity supply from PLN is not functioning. The use of solar panels is strongly influenced by the intensity of sunlight. Changes in climate and weather in Indonesia, cause changes in the intensity of sunlight that varies, and make the sunlight received by solar panels less than optimal so that the output of solar panels is also unstable. This study was conducted to determine how much effect the boost converter has when it is attached to the output of the solar panel. There are 4 variables tested and then measurements are made on the output of the solar panel in the form of voltage and current using a digital multimeter, and power that comes from the multiplication of voltage and current. Based on the results of the study, there was only a change in the value of the output voltage produced by solar panels without a boost converter and solar panels using a boost converter for 5 hours. The increase in the value of the voltage is only 1.19x. The boost converter cannot change the output power but only the voltage. Keywords: Solar panel, boost converter, voltage level
