Abstract
Introduction: Introduction : Hypertension is a non-communicable disease, where the prevalence is increasing every year. Patients with hypertension have increased creatinine levels due to free radicals. Prednisone and NaCl are effective in increasing blood pressure which causes patients to experience oxidative stress. The content of Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester (CAPE) in propolis extract is able to neutralize free radicals due to oxidative stress so that it can improve the condition of hypertension. Research Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of propolis extract on serum creatinine levels of male rats with wistar albino strain of hypertension model. Research Methodology: This study uses a true experimental design pre test – post test control group design. The experimental animals were 28 male wistar albino rats which were further divided into 4 groups. K1 (non-hypertensive negative control), K2 (positive control/prednisone), K3 (the treatment group1), and K4 (the treatment group 2). The study was conducted for 43 days with 3 measurements. Measurements consisted of body weight using an analytical balance, blood pressure using the CODA method, and serum creatinine levels using the Jaffe method. The research analysis test used the Kruskal Wallis test. The propolis extract in this study is a propolis extract with the trademark PropoelixTM which has an ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value of 21.921 Results: The results showed that there was a significant increase (p<0.01) on the creatinine level of rats with wistar albino hypertension model. treated with propolis extract at a dose of 0.0216 grams and 0.0432 grams. In the treatment group, the propolis extract dose of 0.0216 gram decreased by 1.18 mg/dL while the propolis extract treatment group at the dose of 0.0432 gram decreased by 2.11 mg/dL. A dose of 0.0432 is more effective in lowering serum creatinine levels Conclusion: Administration of propolis extract at a dose of 0.0216 g/200 g BW of rats and a dose of 0.0432 g/200 g of rats had an effect on reducing creatinine levels of hypertensive male wistar albino rats.
