Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic, which actively occurred in mid-2020, forced almost all face-to-face activities to switch to using online media, including teaching and learning activities in all educational institutions. To deal with this problem, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta has chosen Openlearning as an online learning medium during Covid-19. Open learning is considered an innovation because it is considered to be able to meet the needs of online learning. Rogers' innovation diffusion theory is used to explain the process of adopting Open learning innovation as an online learning medium. Then the qualitative research method is used to describe the process of diffusion of innovation by using semi-structured interview techniques to collect data and supported by secondary data obtained from documents. The sample in this study used a purposive sampling method. Four students of Communication Science class 2018 Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta are asked to collect the data. Data analysis used in this work is the Miles and Huberman model, then validated by source triangulation technique. The results of this study show that the Openlearning adoption process is running without any problems, but there is no trialability stage due to the urgent situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.
