Abstract
Students often use the internet as an instant means to access, obtain, and process information or data as one of their needs. One of the uses of technology by students to speed up completing their assignments is by means of plagiarism. The quick way to copy or plagiarize other people's work is not necessarily the best way. It is ironic that technological advances are not used as a means to deepen sources of knowledge but are misused as an instant way to quickly complete an obligation in a negative way, namely the practice of plagiarism. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors, impacts and ways to overcome plagiarism practices carried out by students when compiling daily assignments and thesis. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Respondents in this study consisted of 10 students of FKIP UMS and 2 lecturers at FKIP UMS. Data collected through in-depth interviews with informants. The results of this study found that the factors that cause students to practice plagiarism include; lazy to add insight, likes to procrastinate work, misuse of technology. The short-term impact of plagiarism by students; reduced self-confidence, fosters a sense of laziness, gets punished. Long term impact; dependence until his academic career can be revoked. How to overcome this act of plagiarism can be done by; increase knowledge and insight, paraphrase and check plagiarism, understand the negative effects of plagiarism and plagiarism sanctions, and participate in socialization about plagiarism. Based on the research that has been carried out, the impact of plagiarism among students who are compiling daily assignments and theses, will have an impact on both themselves and the person who owns the work. In addition, the act of plagiarism over time will cause dependence for the person who did it. As a result, student creativity will be reduced because they only depend on the work of others.
