Abstract

This study discusses the speech disfluency found in the video presentations of students in the microteaching class. The objectives of this research were to identify the types of speech disfluency, to identify the frequency of speech disfluency, and to explain the sources of speech disfluency. This research used qualitative descriptive research with content analysis as a method. The data for this research was taken from utterances containing speech disfluency, taken from an EFL student's video presentation at a microteaching class. The data was analyzed using a theory proposed by Clark & Clark. The subjects of this research were micro teaching students of class H English Education at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Document analysis was used to collect data in this study, which involves reading written texts or documents. The researcher used the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana technique to analyse the entire dataset, which was separated into four steps: data collection, data condensation, data display, and drawing conclusions. The result showed that (1) there are seven types of speech disfluency; namely filled pause, silent pause, repeat, false start, stutter, correction, and slip of the tongue, (2) the most dominant types of speech disfluency is filled pause with 27 utterances or 31,77%, (3) the sources of speech disfluency are cognitive reason, psychological reason, social reason.
