Abstract

This study is to reveal racial discrimination reflected in A Raisin internet the Sun movie directed by Kenny Leon published in 2008. The objective of the study are to analyze the structural elements in the movie and to analyze the racial discrimination based on Marxist approach. The object of the study is a movie A Raisin in the Sun directed by Kenny Leon. The researcher employs the descriptive qualitative research as a type of the research. The data sources are divided into two, namely primary data source and secondary data source. The primary data source is the movie and script of A Raisin in the Sun and the secondary data source is information related to the primary data source, and website. The method of collecting data is observation and library review. The method of analyzing data is descriptive technique. Based on the analysis, the researcher draws two conclusions: first, based on the structural analysis, Kenny Leon wants to deliver a message that the blacks and the whites have equal opportunity to achieve their goals as a human being. Second, based on the Marxist analysis, Kenny Leon reflects the racial discrimination by present Marxist issues in this movie. The blacks struggle against the discrimination to seeking in better life which is begun by several conflicts.
