Abstract

Poverty is one of the most difficult economic problems to control. In Central Java, despite declining, the number of people living in poverty is still relatively high. This study aimed to estimate the effect of Mean Years of Schooling, Life Expectancy, unemployment, minimum wages, and investment on the percentage of poor people in Central Java in 2015-2020 using a panel data regression with the Random Effects Model (REM) approach. The results of this study indicated that Mean Years of Schooling, Life Expectancy, and minimum wage had a negative effect on the percentage of the poor people, while unemployment and investment had no effect. To reduce the level of poverty in Central Java, the government is expected to provide scholarships to underprivileged communities and build schools in remote areas so that the quality of human resources improves, and people will be able to get jobs easier in the future. In addition, the government is also expected to be able to build economic zones to attract investors, so that more jobs can be created and people will be able to meet their livelihood needs, and that poverty can eventually be reduced.
