Abstract

During the pandemic, Instagram was used as a medium for disseminating information about COVID-19. As the media most favored by Generation Z, Instagram now has a very big influence in conveying information. The explanation in media dependency theory is the main source for obtaining information. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the Instagram variable as a news media. This type of research is quantitative explanatory with a sample of 97 respondents from UMS students obtained from the Slovin formula with purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques in the study were carried out through a survey with a questionnaire instrument. The data analysis technique used is simple linear regression data analysis between the variable (X) Instagram as a media for reporting on Covid-19 and the variable (Y) the level of student confidence. The results showed that there was an influence between the variable (X) on the variable (Y) which explained that Instagram as a news media for Covid-19 had a significant effect on the level of student confidence. The influence of Instagram as a media for reporting Covid-19 on the level of student confidence is 38.6% with a significance of 0.000.
