Abstract

The title of this research is “The Struggle of Nicole Barber to Get Happiness in Marriage Story (2019) Directed by Noah Baumbach: An Individual Psychology approach”. The purpose of this study is to describe the struggle for happiness from Nicole Barber, using the theory of Individual Psychology from Alfred Adler. This research is a qualitative research. In this study using a qualitative descriptive type of research with data collection methods in this study a library research and note-taking method. To analyze the data, the researchers used reduction, display data, conclusion drawing or verification. For this research, the data comes from the film Marriage story directed by Noah Baumbach which was released in 2019. Research results from the film Marriage Story show the problems that affect Nicole's pursuit of happiness in the absence of career, ownership, affection, self-concept and role-concept realization. Furthermore, the film shows Nicole's struggle to find happiness in family matters by always being enthusiastic and openness to friends and family who support her. Nicole's happiness is acceptance, self-love, living conditions, hope and achievement.
