Abstract

GRDP in regencies/cities in East Java has shown an increasing trend, but the economic growth has not been stable. This study aimed to estimate the effect of the number of working population, government spending, mean years of schooling, and life expectancy on GRDP in districts/cities in East Java from 2014 to 2019 using a data regression analysis with the Fixed Effects Model (FEM) approach. The results of this study indicated that, partially, the number of working population and government spending were statistically proven to have no effect on GRDP. Meanwhile, the mean years of schooling and life expectancy had a positive effect on GRDP. The government can improve the quality of human resources by expand special education programs for orphans, poor, and school dropouts, such as ’Program Indonesia Pintar’, so that people are more educated and productivity increases. Then, the government should increase infrastructure spending so that it can have a long-term impact on the economy. There is a need for increased training for job seekers, such as: held at the Job Training Center to get the skills or expertise possessed by each job seekers so that they can help to get decent jobs and be able to develop independent businesses.
