Abstract

The existence of people who have mental disorders is one of the reasons for the presence of a social rehabilitation center for people with mental disabilities (BRSPDM) Margo Laras as a rehabilitation center. Interpersonal relationships become one of the important things in the care of people who have mental disorders. This study aims to analyze the formation of the relationship between the facilitator and Penerima Manfaat (PM), especially in the strategy of reducing uncertainty by the facilitator. This study uses the Uncertainty Reduction theory through active, passive and interactive strategies. This research was conducted with a case study approach, qualitative method. Meanwhile, the data was taken by using in-depth interviews with the informants determined by the purposive sampling method. Data analysis was carried out using the Interactive Model while data validity was carried out through data triangulation techniques. The results of this study stated that the companion at BRSPDM Margo Laras experienced two types of uncertainty, namely cognitive which occurred when the companion had difficulty understanding what was on the PM's mind while behavioral uncertainty occurred when trying to communicate by reprimanding the PM, there was no response at all. In the uncertainty reduction strategy, the facilitator is assisted by the organization in carrying out the active strategy. Another strategy that is passive is done by observing PM activities while interactive strategy is done by communicating directly.
