Abstract

Background: Heart failure is a cardiovascular problem with a high prevalence. The development of heart failure in someone who is getting worse every day is the reason for the patient to be hospitalized again. The experience of being hospitalized again causes disturbances in the psychological aspects that trigger negative emotions. Research Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between the incidence of re-hospitalization and the psychological response of patients with heart failure at the Cardiology Outpatient Unit of UNS Hospital. Methods: This research design uses descriptive-analytic and cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The number of respondents in this study were 294 patients with heart failure who had experienced re-hospitalization. The instrument used is a DASS (Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale)-21 questionnaire which has been tested for validity and reliability. Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents were more than 65 years old, male, with the latest high school education, not working / housewives, diagnosed with heart failure in the range of 1-5 years, experiencing re-hospitalization once a year, and experiencing functional classes. NYHA II. This study used the Pearson statistical test. It showed that there was no relationship between the incidence of re-hospitalization and the psychological response of patients with heart failure with a significant p-value of 0.960 for depression, 0.588 for anxiety, and 0.679 for stress. Conclusion: Patients with heart failure who have been hospitalized once or more than 5 times have the same risk of experiencing mild, moderate, severe or very severe psychological problems.
