Abstract
The increase in population encourages increased population mobility which results in an increase in the volume of traffic in an area. Population growth also affects the increase in land use in an area which can affect the physical condition of the road and the flow of traffic on a road. As the population and traffic volume increase, as well as the high level of side barriers can reduce traffic flow . The number of motorized vehicles in Magelang City is increasing from year to year. The increasing number of motorized vehicles can cause a problem, namely the accumulation of vehicles on the roads which causes traffic jams. This study aims to: (1) Analyze the level of traffic congestion on the arterial and collector roads of Magelang City, (2) Analyze the dominant factors that affect the level of traffic congestion on the arterial and collector roads of Magelang City. The method used in this research is survey and observation. The sampling technique used is the purposive sampling technique. Quantitative description and regression analysis are the analytical methods used to analyze this research. The results showed that there were 3 classes of traffic congestion levels, namely high, medium and low on weekdays and holidays in the morning, afternoon and evening. The peak of weekday mornings with high intensity is on Jalan Pemuda, Jalan Jendral Sudirman section B, and Jalan Urip Sumoharjo. The level of traffic jam is on Jalan Tidar, Jalan Sarwo Edhie, Jalan Gatot Subroto, and Jalan Soldier Pelajar. The level of traffic congestion is low on Jalan Ahmad Yani section A, Jalan Ahmad Yani section B, Jalan Jendral Sudirman section A, and Jalan Soekarno-Hatta. The level of traffic congestion is high during weekdays on Jalan Pemuda, Puncak in the afternoon on Jalan Urip Sumoharjo the level of traffic congestion is high. Meanwhile, during holidays, the level of traffic congestion on the research roads is dominated by low levels of congestion. The dominant factor that affects the level of traffic congestion based on the results of the regression analysis is the basic capacity (co). Suggestions from this research are that there should not be a lot of roadside activity and widening the road or making one-way roads, evaluating traffic light cycle times at signalized intersections such as on Jalan Jendral Sudirman section B and Jalan Urip Sumoharjo, and increasing parking rates at the center downtown shopping areas such as Jalan Pemuda which aims to make people choose to take public transportation rather than private vehicles
