Abstract
The role of the principal's leadership is very supportive in the formation of the quality of education in schools. Principals also have a role in improving the performance of teachers who are in schools. Good principals are those who are able to seek to improve teacher performance through a program of capacity building activities for educational staff and thus becoming a principal must have the skills to lead an educational institution. This study aims to describe the leadership of the principal at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Kertek Wonosobo and to describe the principal's efforts to improve teacher performance at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Kertek Wonosobo. In this way, this research can formulate the problem, namely how is the leadership of the principal at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Kertek Wonosobo and how is the principal's efforts to improve teacher performance at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Kertek Wonosobo. The type of research used in this study uses qualitative research. Data collection methods used are interviews, observation and documentation. This qualitative research uses field research that focuses on collecting data and information from an actual phenomenon. This research uses phenomenological research which is to understand a phenomenon in research. From this study it can be concluded that the leadership of the principal at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Kertek Wonosobo in his leadership uses a democratic leadership style. The principal as an innovator has a strategy by creating a harmonious environment by forming a good personality to be imitated, the principal has a friendly, kind, assertive, humorous and authoritative attitude. The development at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Kertek Wonosobo is somewhat lacking due to the lack of school promotion and the lack of technological facilities.
