Abstract

West Payakumbuh District is an area that is experiencing uncontrolled urban development. This is due to the large and high population compared to 4 other districts in Payakumbuh City. The high population will certainly increase the need for land for settlements. The large population and limited access to residential land have resulted in the emergence of slum areas. Therefore, the concept of land suitability according to FAO (1976) in the future to overcome the problem of settlements. This can be determined by utilizing remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS). The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that affect the suitability of residential land and analyze the suitability of residential land in the District of West Payakumbuh. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a spatial analysis approach. The parameters used in this study are slope slope (DEMNAS data processing), soil texture (data from DPUPR), surface drainage (soil texture data processing), land use (Worldview-3 image interpretation), flood susceptibility (slope data processing results), slope, soil type, land use, and rainfall), and distance to main roads (buffered road data from DPUPR). Data collected using secondary data collection techniques from agencies and other sources. Sampling using purposive sampling technique which aims to validate the data. The tiered weighted rating and overlay are techniques used to analyze the suitability of residential land. Analysis of the data used in the form of quantitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that the factors that affect the suitability of residential land in the research area are the slope factor which is dominated by flat class, soil texture which is dominated by medium class, surface drainage which is dominated by medium class, land use which is dominated by very bad class, vulnerability flood which is dominated by class is quite prone, and the distance to the main road which is dominated by class is very good. The results also show that there are 4 (four) classes of land suitability for settlements, namely very suitable class (S1) with an area of 0.10 ha, quite suitable (S2) with an area of 204.71 ha, marginally suitable (S3) with an area of 1,080.49 ha, and not suitable (N1) with an area of 393.20 ha. In this unsuitable class (N1), efforts can be made to minimize the limiting factors so that the land suitability class in this region can be increased to a marginally suitable class (S3) with a smaller limiting factor. These efforts require the support of the Regional Government through policies or programs that can support this region in overcoming its limiting factors. For example, the construction of infrastructure in the form of roads and drainage in the area so that limiting factors can be minimized
