Abstract

In the last two decades, Indonesia still faces challenges to improve the health of pregnant women. The role of the community in the program to improve the health of pregnant women is very important, including prevention of complications, delivery planning, activities facilitated by village midwives, the active role of husbands and the community. Health cadres are an important component in society. In the program to increase development and empower rural communities, it is necessary to involve youth health cadres. Sukoharjo Regency has a youth organization, namely Pemuda Siaga Sehat (DASIAT) which is engaged in health improvement programs in the community. However, there is not enough research exploring the role of DASIAT in the program to improve the health of pregnant women. The purpose of this study was to determine the experience of DASIAT in Sukoharjo Regency in the program to improve the health of pregnant women. This type of research is a qualitative research with an exploratory generic approach. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The participants consisted of 6 DASIAT members at the district and sub-district levels. The research instrument used an interview guide with a semi-structured interview method. Test the validity of the interview guidelines using a pilot interview and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results showed that the participants lacked knowledge about the health of pregnant women. Participants said that the program to improve the health of pregnant women was not the main focus of DASIAT, the supporting factors in the program to improve the health of pregnant women were internal factors, community support, and health agencies. For the inhibiting factors in the program to improve the health of pregnant women, namely human resources from DASIAT members, public perception, lack of training and lack of support from the government and health agencies.
