Abstract

The electric power system must have good reliability for the process of distributing electricity to consumers. The transmission system, which is designed to deliver electricity from the generator to the substation, has internal and external disturbances. Disturbances that occurred from outside were due to lightning, fallen trees, and broken insulators. The disruption that occurs certainly causes a lack of reliability of the transmission system because it can result in a short circuit. Therefore it is necessary to have protection or safety in the transmission system. The component that handles the system from gangguna is the protection relay. The protection relay will detect abnormal conditions in the system, by comparing the condition of the system during normal conditions and when a fault occurs. One of the safety relays for transmission is the distance relay, which is divided into three zones. This research method was carried out by collecting literature data and field observations at the Solo Baru - Palur Substation. The data needed for the calculation are in the form of conductor and transformer parameters. The data is processed using mathematical calculations in accordance with the literature. The results of the calculation of the impedance reach in each zone obtained zone 1 of (0.5631168 + j 2.2960576) Ω. Zone 2 is (1.13075814 + j 3.93354509) Ω, and zone 3 is (1.90780272 + j 6,51521544) Ω.
