Abstract

Introduction: The emergence of the Covid-19 outbreak requires social distancing to inhibit the spread of the virus. Social distancing has an impact on learning activities so that it is done online which results in monotonous children's activities. Monotonous activities can reduce the ability of physical activity which will later trigger chronic health problems, including musculoskeletal complaints with the characteristics of being easily tired, achy after activities, becoming less productive so that it can trigger overweight. As a result, muscle strength and mineral content in bones will decrease, flexibility will deteriorate, and coordination will decrease. Musculoskeletal problems experienced in childhood to adolescence can increase the risk of 2 experiencing musculoskeletal problems in the future. Objective: To determine the relationship between body mass index and lumbar flexibility after the covid-19 pandemic in middle school children. Methods: This research is an analytical observation with a cross-sectional design conducted at SMPN 12 Tangerang with a total sample of 206 consisting of 110 women and 96 men aged 13 to 15 years according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: From 206 samples, the average was in the Normal BMI category (21,47 ± 3,93) but had very poor lumbar flexibility (7.70 ± 5.44). The normality test showed that both variables were not normally distributed with P value < 0.05. And the correlation test shows the value of p = 0.069 with a correlation value of 0.127. Conclusion: Body mass index and lumbar flexibility have no correlation.
