Abstract
This study aims to determine what science material misconceptions occur in the fourth grade student book theme 7 and describe the science misconceptions that occur in the fourth grade student book theme 7. This type of research is qualitative research. The research design used was content analysis. In this study, the data were collected using documentation techniques, with an instrument in the form of an observation sheet on the contents of the book to investigate whether there were any misconceptions in science. The source of data in this study was the book for grade IV students with the theme 7 of the 2017 science subject content by Henny Kusumawati, published by the Ministry of Culture. In this study, using data analysis techniques that refer to the categories of misidentification, overgeneralization, oversimpelfications, obselete concepts and terms and under generalizations. Misidentification category if the explanation of the concept contained in the book is different from the reference book, there is an identification error, and an error occurs in explaining a process. Overgeneralization category if the concept stated only shows part of the object or problem of science. Oversimpelfications category if the concept contained in the textbook is not as complete as the explanation in the reference book. Category obselete concept and term if the explanation of the concept is too broad (no mention of exceptions) while in reference books or other literature it is mentioned, there is an image without an explanation of the parts. Under generalizations category, if the name used in explaining a concept in a textbook is an old term, while there are new terms in a reference book. To test the validity of the data, it was done by extending observations and increasing persistence. Based on the results of the research, it was found that there were misconceptions in the 2017 revision of the Theme 7 Student Book on Science Material. The categories of misconceptions contained in student books are misidentification and oversimplification. The number of misconceptions in the student book is 10 concepts. In the misidentification category there are 2 concepts, namely the concept of dynamic electricity and gravitational force, while in the Overgeneralization category there is 1 concept, namely the concept of friction force, in the Oversimplification category there are 7 concepts, namely the concept of defining forces, various forces, benefits of muscle force, static electricity , magnetic force, and gravitational force.
