Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the types of errors and the factors causing students to make mistakes in solving exponential problems in terms of learning styles based on Newman Error Analysis. The NEA consists of five stages: reading, understanding, transformation, process skills and writing answers. This type of research is descriptive qualitative, with the subject of class X Accounting students at SMK Prawira Marta Kartasura. Data collection techniques using questionnaires, documentation and interviews. The validity of the data is by triangulation techniques. Data analysis techniques by data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that students visual, auditory, kinesthetic made mistakes: 1) errors of transformation, 2) mistakes in process skills, 3) errors in writing answers. Visual, auditory, kinesthetic students have different causes for making mistakes. Factors that cause students to make mistakes include transformation errors caused by not understanding the concept of exponent correctly. Process skill errors are caused by students still not understanding the concept of exponential multiplication, students are in a hurry when working on problems and are not thorough in the completion process. The error in writing an answer is caused by an error in the previous step.
