Abstract

The increasing incidence of HIV/AIDS cases is still a concern of the world. The city of Surakarta is the second largest contributor to HIV/AIDS cases in Central Java with a cumulative number of HIV cases in 2017 of 404 people. In Surakarta there were 102 cases in June – August 2018. Problems related to HIV/AIDS, especially in PLWHA, were stigma in the community. One form of stigma is not wanting to shake hands or make contact with PLWHA. The effort that can be done to reduce stigma is the establishment of the AIDS Care Community (WPA). This study aims to analyze the relationship of knowledge, attitudes and perceptions of WPA members about HIV/AIDS with stigma on PLWHA in Surakarta. The type of this researchwas analytical observational with a cross sectional study design. The study population was 153 members of WPA. Samples were taken as many as 99 respondents using Cluster Random Sampling techniques. Data analysis used Chi Square Test with 95% confidence level (CI). The results showed that there was no significant relationship between knowledge (p value=0.201), attitude (p value=0.077) and perceptions (p value=0.451) of WPA members about HIV/AIDS with stigma on PLWHA in Surakarta.
