Abstract
Nicotine stimulates the sympathetic nerves and adrenal medulla which causes vasoconstriction and increased heart rate and cardiac output. Regular physical activity regulates body weight and strengthens the heart. Lack of physical activity results in a harder contraction of the heart and the greater the pressure placed on the arteries so that peripheral resistance increases and cause a rise on blood pressure. To determine the association of smoking habits and physical activity with high blood pressure in members of Korem 074 Warastratama Surakarta. This study used a cross sectional study design. Conducted in the korem 074 Warastratama Surakarta. Subjects were 90 men taken by consecutive sampling technique. Collecting data on smoking habits using the riskesdas 2013 questionnaire, physical activity using the GPAQ questionnaire, blood pressure using a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope. Data analysis using chi-square test. The results of the chi square test showed that there was no relationship between smoking habits with blood pressure (p=0.40) and between physical activity.with blood pressure (p=0.19). Smoking habits and physical activity are not significantly related to high blood pressure.
